the dust is 100% procedurally done in Maya

I rendered the dust in Maya software
the rest is mental ray

textures painted in Photoshop

clean version: [link]

wireframe: [link]

it was done in less than 3 weeks together with other projects... this is one of my best works so far, but it still has things to be fixed

I probably got many base textures in dA, some probably without noticing. The only one I can remember right now is the book texture found here [link]

EDIT - 12/09/2011 - 10:57 PM

So I finally got some time to try and fix the main problems that were bugging me, tell me what you think. >,<

and thanks a lot for my first DD :iconmikklings: , :iconcymae: and everyone else commenting !! ^o^ I don't have enough time to answer to all of you (sorry about that!), but I read all of them and really appreciate every opinion :)

The traveller - dusty version by ~leticiakao has great attention to detail, and excellent use of textures and shaders, the dust is very well done too. ( Suggested by =Mikklings and Featured by `Cymae )

Brilliant work. Nice job on the procedural dust. Can that be done in 3dsMax?

The details on this are amazing. I've been staring at it for a really long time and there's so much detail to it. I bet there could be a whole story written from just this picture alone.

Itīs an amazing work. This is my favourite version. However, I think that the candle is a little "clean"...
